Ali Krieger, acclaimed soccer player, declares retirement from the sport.

March 23, 2023 : Ali Krieger, a well-known soccer star who is renowned for her exceptional defensive skills and leadership both on and off the field, has announced her retirement from professional soccer. Krieger made the announcement during an appearance on “CBS Mornings” on Thursday, stating that her body is telling her that it is the right time to retire.
Having been an integral part of the U.S. women’s soccer team for over a decade, Krieger has played more than 100 games with the team. She is currently playing for Gotham FC, a member of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), and plans to retire at the end of the league’s season. In her final season, Krieger hopes to win a title that has eluded her and to celebrate with fans and fellow players.
Krieger has a long list of achievements in her career, including playing for the Orlando Pride and Washington Spirit before joining Gotham FC in 2021. She led the Washington Spirit to the NWSL championship game in 2016 and has been named to the NWSL Best XI. Krieger also played a crucial role in the U.S. Women’s National Team’s victories at the 2015 and 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cups, as well as for Team USA at the Rio Olympics in 2016.
Off the field, Krieger has advocated for equal pay and the LGBTQ+ community. She believes that her impact off the field is what she is most proud of, and she wants to leave the game in a better place than where she found it.
Krieger is married to fellow professional soccer player Ashlyn Harris, and the two met while playing for the U.S. Women’s National Team more than a decade ago. They now have two young children, and Krieger is looking forward to spending more time with her family and having a schedule that allows her to wake up with her kids, spend the day with them, and put them to bed, which she considers the most cherished moments of motherhood.
