First Lady of the United States Commends King Mohammed VI's Leadership in Empowering Women and Youth
June 5, 2023 : In a statement issued by the White House, Mrs. Biden expressed her admiration for the leadership of King Mohammed VI of Morocco, stating that under his guidance, the country is actively promoting reforms to empower women and youth, which aligns with their shared priorities. She emphasized the United States’ gratitude for the longstanding partnership and friendship with Morocco.
During her visit to Marrakech, Mrs. Biden was warmly received by HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa, with whom she had the opportunity to discuss important initiatives. Princess Lalla Hasnaa shared her work on educating children and young people about the significance of environmental protection, which deeply inspired Mrs. Biden. She expressed her eagerness to take this story back to the United States and explore more opportunities for mutual learning.
Accompanied by her daughter Ashley Biden and her sister Bobby Jacobs, Mrs. Biden’s visit to Morocco is part of a broader tour encompassing the Middle East, North Africa, and Europe. The objective of the tour is to promote the well-being of women and youth worldwide, particularly in the areas of education, health, and empowerment.
This visit marks Mrs. Biden’s second trip to Morocco, the first being in 2014 when she accompanied President Joe Biden, who was then the Vice President of the Obama administration. They attended the 5th edition of the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) held in Marrakech in November of that year.
Morocco has always been a favored destination for US First Ladies, highlighting the country’s reputation for hospitality and warmth. This enduring enthusiasm for Morocco reflects the high regard senior American officials hold for the nation and emphasizes the strong and strategic partnership between Morocco and the United States under the leadership of King Mohammed VI.
