Women have always taken up every challenge which came their way and emerged triumphant. Women of high caliber who initiate business enterprises handle finances resourcefully, adopt ingenious strategies and formulate their own success mantra to thrive in this male-dominated industry. Women entrepreneurship can be a collective venture where a bunch of women with the same or a similar vision assembles to materialize their dreams. They, themselves, raise and invest the capital necessary to erect their Business and also provide employment to their fellow women who aspire to be independent.
From the standpoint of the Indian Government, one can define Women’s Entrepreneurship as follows.
“A woman entrepreneur is defined as an enterprise owned and controlled by a woman having a minimum financial interest of 51 percent of the capital and giving at least 51 percent of employment generated in the enterprise to women.”
Nowadays, women are given access to formal education and are also exposed to western culture and liberal thoughts. These factors, coupled with the encouragement provided by the government in the form of scholarships, stipends, and financial aid, prompt women to build their careers in Business. A successful businesswoman has to possess a few qualities in order to garner respect, accolades, and a niche in contemporary commerce. A few of these profitable characteristics of a woman entrepreneur are discussed below.
Steadfastness: Most women in our contemporary society are reluctant to take up risks; therefore, they engage themselves in routine jobs which promise them much financial security. Unlike these conventional female jobs, Business is prone to fluctuating loss and gain. At times, the loss would be potent enough to destroy the entire trade. Entrepreneurs ought to remain resilient in the face of defeat. They should also be able to raise enough funds and economy to sustain their commerce. A successful businesswoman should be steadfast and retain her composure and work towards rebuilding her commercial empire.
Compliance: Women in the Business realm should be able to adapt to the new developments in their respective fields. Prior to launching a new product, they must be aware of the new trends that reign their realm and the priorities of their customers. Entrepreneurs should also be willing to alter their strategies to fit the bill. Businesswomen who strive to survive in this highly competitive world should be accommodative of new ideas instead of being adamant.
Good Communication Skills: A well-known maxim says that the best companion should be a good listener, but someone who wishes to be the best entrepreneur should be a good orator as well. Having good ideas is not sufficient to be an entrepreneur, dexterity in conveying one’s ideas can escalate the gains of the trade. A good entrepreneur should be adept at verbal and non-verbal communication. In conclusion, one can say that- Gender is never a barrier for women in achieving their goals. Talent outruns every other parameter.
